Showing Up for the Community: Freedom First Transportation at BAKA Boot Camp

There are moments in this work that remind us exactly why we do it.

This month, Freedom First Transportation had the privilege of providing accessible shuttle services for participants at the BAKA Boot Camp, a specialized training event hosted by Hanger Clinic at their Schaumburg, Illinois location. It is one of the most meaningful events we have been a part of, and we are proud to share a little about what it is and why it matters.

What Is BAKA Boot Camp?

BAKA stands for Bilateral Above-Knee Amputees, and the Boot Camp is exactly what it sounds like: an intensive, empowering multi-day event bringing together bilateral above-knee amputees for mobility training, strength building, peer connection, and adaptive sports. Hanger Clinic, one of the nation’s leading providers of prosthetics and orthotics, hosts this event to support participants in pushing limits, building skills, and surrounding themselves with a community that truly understands the journey.

For the participants, getting to and from an event like this is not always straightforward. Mobility challenges, prosthetic equipment, and the physical demands of the event itself mean that transportation has to be reliable, accessible, and handled by people who genuinely care.

That is where Freedom First came in.

Our Role: Accessible Shuttle Services for Every Participant

Freedom First Transportation served as the designated accessible transportation provider for the BAKA Boot Camp, shuttling participants safely and on time so they could focus on what really mattered: the event itself. Hanger Clinic trusted us enough to list Freedom First directly on their official event page as the recommended transportation resource for attendees, and we did not take that responsibility lightly.

Our team showed up prepared, professional, and ready to accommodate participants with varying mobility needs. Every ride was handled with care, and every rider arrived where they needed to be.

Why Accessible Transportation Is About More Than a Ride

For someone attending BAKA Boot Camp, the transportation experience sets the tone before the first training session even begins. Arriving late, uncomfortable, or feeling like an afterthought is not the way anyone should start a day like that.

At Freedom First, we believe accessible transportation is about dignity and inclusion, not just logistics. When we shuttle someone to a community event, a medical appointment, or a day that means something to them, we are not just moving them from point A to point B. We are making sure they can participate in their own lives, fully and on their terms.

That is why partnerships with organizations like Hanger Clinic are so important to us. When healthcare providers, adaptive sports communities, and transportation services work together, the people who need support actually get it.
